Join artist Brendan Barry for an immersive, hands-on day exploring the magic of the camera obscura. Working in a small group (maximum 5 participants) in his studio, you’ll learn how to transform a space into a functioning camera obscura and make unique black-and-white photographs directly onto photographic paper.
Together, we’ll create paper negatives, develop them in the darkroom, make contact paper positives, and explore the fundamentals of experimental analogue image-making. Throughout the day, we’ll learn about the mechanics of photography, time, light, and subject matter, and produce a series of traditional black & white photographic prints.
We’ll be working with still life arrangements of flowers and foliage—subject matter will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own plant life and vases if they wish.
Each participant will take away there own photographs at the end of the day.
No prior experience needed.
